At Brookview Psychology, we treat adults with various outpatient concerns in individual therapy. However, psychotherapy is not only for those experiencing significant distress. Therapy can benefit anyone interested in developing personal insight, managing stress or improving the quality of their relationships with others.
The success of psychotherapy is highly dependent upon the relationship between the therapist and client. We want to build trust and feelings of safety when working with all clients.
What can I expect from therapy?
We get it. Talking to a stranger about your vulnerabilities is extremely difficult. Believe us, nothing surprises us anymore. At Brookview Psychology, we combine the vast knowledge of clinical psychology, cultural, and holistic understanding of each individual to make it a unique experience for the people we serve.
The transformative experience of therapy will take place by seeking to gain a deep understanding of you, your story, and how the events, traumas and relationships in your life have intersected with your unique life journey and mental well-being. We strive to help you feel seen and valued as an individual, and less alone and ashamed in your struggles. We will guide you in gaining profound insights into yourself, your emotions and your relationships, and grow in new and enduring ways that perhaps you didn’t believe were possible.
Let’s face it. You probably know which behaviors you want to change, when you might be having irrational thoughts, and you have some sense of how you want your life to be different. If change was as easy as identifying the problem and following a plan, you probably would have done it by now. You aren’t lacking in motivation to be more at peace with yourself and to move forward in the ways you desire. Nevertheless, your provider does not have a magic wand to make your problems disappear or a single solution to your problem. Effective therapy comes when you are ready to do the work. We cannot change the other person, but we could help you change yourself. You have full control of your situation and know what you need. We are here to help.
Therapy, in general, can be challenging, exciting, educational, interesting, and extraordinarily useful. Therapy need not be overwhelming as we will also work on skill-building, self-care, symptom management, and containment as needed. These strategies can be both creative and practical, and we will work to discover what resonates the best with you. What can be effective and inspired for one client, may be ineffective or damaging to another.
How do I initiate therapy?
All it takes is for you to contact us. We will reach out to schedule a 15 minutes consultation (free of charge) to determine if it is the right fit. Should you decide to proceed, we will send an invite to set up your client portal (i.e., appointment scheduling, secure messaging, online payment, and e-sign) and schedule your initial session.
On the day of your appointment, you should have received an email with a video meeting (via Zoom) link to join virtually. Your therapist will be waiting and is ready to work with you.
Is telehealth therapy for me?
Telehealth Therapy is a good fit if you are a student or professional who needs flexibility with scheduling, are a parent who needs to be home, or if you prefer to be in the comfort of your own space. Having access to reliable internet speed and compatible smart device is a must in order to enhance service quality.
Telehealth Therapy may not be a good fit for you if you are experiencing active suicidal or self-harm thoughts or behaviors, experience psychosis (i.e., hallucinations or delusional thoughts), or require crisis support. Please contact your local crisis resources by dialing 988, or, in case of emergency, dial 911.
